The Japan student visa follows a specific order, and getting that order wrong is the most common avoidable delay. Here is the sequence and the documents.
Secure a place at a Japanese language school, vocational college or university. The school then applies in Japan for a Certificate of Eligibility on your behalf. Once the certificate is issued, you apply for the visa at the Japanese embassy in Kathmandu. Separately, you need a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Education before you leave. Students who leave the NOC until after the visa appointment invert the order and lose time.
Expect to provide the Certificate of Eligibility, your academic documents, evidence of Japanese study and level, evidence of who is funding you and how, and your passport. Requirements are adjusted periodically, so confirm the current list with the embassy rather than relying on a provider’s checklist alone.
Two patterns recur. Funding evidence is assembled late or inconsistently, and the language level claimed does not match the documentation. Both are avoidable, and both are worth more of your attention than the visa form itself.
Yes for most study routes. The school in Japan applies for it on your behalf before you apply for the visa itself.
Yes. Every Nepali student going abroad needs one, and it should be obtained before the visa stage. Read the guide.
