How We Rank Consultancies

We rank on facts that can be checked by anyone. That is a deliberate constraint, and it is the whole reason this directory is worth reading: in a market where the highest-ranking “best consultancy” lists are written by consultancies about themselves, an independent ranking only has value if its inputs are verifiable. Advertising with us buys a labelled placement. It does not buy a position, a score, or a review.

We will publish our own numbers here once we have them. How many licences we have checked, how many reviews we have verified, and what share of submitted reviews we rejected as unverifiable. Until those figures are real we are leaving the space empty rather than filling it — which is the same standard we hold every listing to.

The six ranking factors, in order of weight

  1. Verified government licenceWe check every listing against the Ministry of Education register. A consultancy operating without a licence is not ranked at all — it does not appear lower down, it does not appear. Roughly 900 of about 5,000 consultancies in Kathmandu Valley hold a permit, so this factor alone removes most of the market.
  2. Verified student reviewsWe accept a review only where the student can evidence the service. Ratings are statistically weighted so a single review cannot lift a listing to the top, and reviews lose weight as they age. We state whether a rating is ours or drawn from a third party.
  3. Fee transparencyPublishing your service fee improves your position. Declining to publish it lowers your position. We treat this as a ranking factor because fee opacity is the most common complaint students raise, and because it is now a regulated disclosure area.
  4. Accreditation depthWe count industry memberships, authorised test-centre partnerships and university representation agreements, and we explain what each one actually means rather than displaying a badge wall.
  5. ResponsivenessWe measure how quickly a consultancy replies to enquiries sent through this site, and we publish the figure on the listing.
  6. Profile completenessA listing that answers a student’s questions outranks one that leaves fields blank. Completeness is free to fix, which makes it the fairest factor on the list.

What sponsorship buys, and what it does not

What it buys

  • A labelled placement on a chosen city or destination page
  • Outbound link tracking so you can measure what we send you
  • Lead notifications and enquiry statistics
  • Priority in the verification queue

What it does not buy

  • A higher algorithmic position
  • A better review score, or removal of a bad review
  • Position above the top-ranked organic result
  • Removal of a complaint annotation or scam flag

Sponsorship does not affect rankings. Sponsored listings carry a visible label, appear at most once per five organic results, and never above position one. Their algorithmic position is computed identically to free listings. Pay-to-rank is not possible here, and we would rather lose the revenue than lose the reason anyone reads this directory.

How we handle review integrity

Review systems in this market get gamed within weeks if they are left open, usually by friends and family rather than by anything sophisticated. Four mechanisms keep ours usable.

Proof of service

We accept a review only with an enquiry record, a receipt or an intake year, and we verify by phone.

Statistical weighting

Ratings are shrunk toward the mean, so a listing with three five-star reviews does not outrank one with two hundred consistent fours.

Recency decay

Reviews lose weight as they age. A consultancy cannot coast on a good record from four years ago.

Re-audit and removal

We re-audit older reviews and remove ones that fail. Consultancies that violate our guidelines face lower rankings, restricted visibility or removal.

Claims we will not publish

Some things appear on nearly every consultancy website in Nepal and will never appear on ours as fact.

ClaimWhat we do instead
“98% visa success rate”Label it self-reported and unverified, and place the sourced national refusal rate for that destination beside it. For Australia that means citing the roughly 65–69% refusal rate for Nepali higher-education applicants at Assessment Level 3.
Any visa guaranteeRefuse it outright. Guarantees are barred under the 2026 regulations.
Unverified star ratingsShow no rating at all until verified reviews exist. An empty rating field is honest; a fabricated one is not.

Questions about our methodology

Can a consultancy pay to rank higher?

No. Sponsorship buys a labelled placement and nothing else. The algorithmic position of a sponsored listing is computed exactly as it would be if the listing were free. If that ever stops being true, this page will say so.

Are you owned by, or affiliated with, any consultancy?

No. We are a directory. We do not recruit students, we do not place students with institutions, and we hold no representation agreements with any university. We take no commission on any student who enrols anywhere.

How do you make money?

Labelled sponsored placements, a matched-enquiry service that consultancies pay to receive, and advertising from adjacent categories such as education lenders. All of it is disclosed, and none of it touches the ranking.

What if I disagree with a ranking?

Tell us. If a listing has wrong data, we will correct it and say when we did. If you think the factors themselves are wrong, that is a fair argument and we would rather have it in public than not. Contact us or report a listing.

How often do rankings change?

Continuously, as reviews and fee disclosures arrive. Licence status is re-verified quarterly. Every listing page carries the date it was last checked.
